Cellulitis

A painful, reddish patch of swollen skin may be cellulitis. This condition is treatable but can be fatal if left unchecked. Seek prompt medical care if you show symptoms of cellulitis.
The most common cause of cellulitis is the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, although other types of bacteria such as Streptococcus pyogenes can also cause the infection. In some cases, cellulitis may be caused by a type of bacteria that normally lives on the skin, but enters the body through a cut or other break in the skin.
