Pain With Swallowing

Pain while swallowing is normally from some sort of infection or irritation to the throat, like the strep bacteria. A person should talk with their healthcare provider if the pain lasts longer than a week or has no obvious cause. Seek emergency care if you experience breathing issues or are struggling to control your mouth muscles.
Throat pain when swallowing is a common symptom of several conditions, including viral infections such as the common cold, flu, or mononucleosis. It may also be caused by bacterial infections such as strep throat or tonsillitis, or other conditions like allergies, acid reflux, or injury.
