Boil

A boil is a painful, pus-filled bump that forms under the skin. They typically begin as a red, swollen, tender area that eventually develops into a firm, raised bump. Boils are usually caused by a bacterial infection of a hair follicle or oil gland and can occur anywhere on the body, but are most commonly found on the face, neck, armpits, buttocks, or thighs.
Boils are typically caused by a bacterial infection of a hair follicle or oil gland. The bacteria responsible for causing boils are usually Staphylococcus aureus, which can be found on the skin or in the nose of healthy individuals. When the bacteria enter the skin through a cut, scrape, or other opening, it can cause an infection that leads to the formation of a boil.
