Fever

Infections often cause fevers. Bacteria or toxins can activate proteins called cytokines that may raise body temperature.
Seek immediate medical attention if your temperature is 103 degrees Fahrenheit (39.4 degrees Celsius) or higher, or if it is accompanied by a severe headache or an unusual, worsening rash. The primary way to treat a fever is to diagnose and treat the underlying cause. Over-the-counter medications, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen, can help reduce a fever. Try to drink plenty of fluids to help bring your temperature down and aid in preventing dehydration.
