Splinter
A splinter is a thin, sharp fragment, usually wood or metal, lodged in the skin. Most splinters can be removed at home with tweezers. Make sure to clean the puncture after removal. If the wound appears infected before or after removing the splinter, visit a nearby Carbon Health.
- If a splinter is left untreated, it can lead to a range of complications, including infection, inflammation, and pain. In some cases, the body may naturally expel the splinter, but if it remains embedded, the surrounding tissue may become inflamed and infected. Signs of infection include redness, swelling, warmth, and drainage from the affected area.
