Cold Sore

Cold sores are a recurring infection of the herpes simplex virus characterized by painful lesions on the outer lips. The symptoms of cold sores can often be treated to provide temporary relief, but the herpes simplex virus cannot be cured.
Cold sores, also known as fever blisters, are primarily triggered by the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). The virus is highly contagious and can be transmitted through direct contact with an infected person or sharing items like utensils, towels, or lip balm. Cold sore outbreaks can be triggered by various factors, including stress, fatigue, weakened immune system, hormonal changes, exposure to sunlight (UV radiation), fever or illness, dental procedures, and skin trauma (such as lip biting or injury).
