Sty In The Eye

A 'sty in the eye' is an inflamed pimple or abscess that forms in or on the eyelid. They can be painful but normally fade away on their own. Do not attempt to pop a sty, as this can cause an infection in the eye. If your sty does not go away within a week, visit a nearby Carbon Health to treat it.
Styes, also known as hordeolums, are usually caused by a bacterial infection in the eyelid or eyelash follicle. Specifically, styes are typically caused by the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, which are commonly found on the skin and in the nose. When these bacteria enter and infect an oil gland or hair follicle in the eyelid, it can result in a red, painful bump known as a stye.
