Thank you for your interest in Carbon Health’s urgent care and primary care fellowships, a curated educational experience designed to introduce and inspire a fulfilling career in medicine.

A good clinician must quickly inspire trust from the patient, be a problem solver, demonstrate technical procedural proficiency, manage throughput and lead the team on the busiest of days, and understand a medical practice as a small business owner.

This fellowship is designed to support clinicians to achieve these skills.  It is grounded in mentorship, learning through hard work, and friendship.  Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions, and we look forward to learning more about your dreams and aspirations!

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

  • What are the requirements to be considered for the urgent or primary care fellowship?
    A nurse practitioner or physician assistant must have their license and board certification prior to starting the fellowship, a DEA in states where it is required to practice, and a desire to learn and grow as a clinician. Our fellows are generally NPs and PAs who have recently graduated or are looking to transition into urgent care or primary care from another specialty.
  • Is this a paid fellowship program?  Would I receive benefits, like PTO or 401(k) match?
    Yes, you will receive an hourly rate, plus full-time clinician employee benefits like PTO and 401(k) match. Upon successful completion of the fellowship, should the fellow choose to join the Carbon Health team, compensation and professional development may be accelerated based on the fellow's performance and aspirations.   • How long is the fellowship program?
    The APC (Advanced Practice Clinician) Fellowship is six months long and organized into four different blocks with graduated responsibility: Foundations in Urgent Care Practice or Primary Care Practice, Guided Practice, Early Autonomy, and Advanced Clinical Practice. By the end of the six months, our fellows are fluent in the common conditions and procedures of urgent or primary care, while also feeling confident leading a team seeing 4-5 patients per hour.
  • What is the weekly schedule for fellows?
    Forty hours per week, which generally is four shifts per week, plus a weekly Fellows Conference where we discuss our cases, review core content, and identify new learning opportunities
  • Will I have one preceptor or work with multiple preceptors?
    It depends on the geographic area, but generally you will work with multiple preceptors to glean the best from each. All of our preceptors are carefully selected to work with our fellows. Fellows will also work closely with the fellowship directors.
  • Will I be at a single site or float to multiple locations?
    It depends on the geographic area, but generally the fellow will train across multiple locations over the course of the six months for a broad and diverse educational experience.
  • Am I going to be offered a full-time job at the end of the fellowship?
    Fellows have the opportunity to apply and interview for any open positions during the final two months of the fellowship. Preferential hire into a Carbon Health location is based on successful completion of fellowship and availability. Our fellowship directors will also facilitate the job application process should the fellow choose to practice elsewhere.
  • Will there be any procedure or skills training included in the program?
    The Urgent Care and Primary Care Fellowship Program includes practice-based learning, didactics, hands-on procedure and skills based workshops and mentorship.
