Meet Dejah Willis, Center Manager of our Berkeley location. In this post, she shares a closer look at the clinic and what makes the Berkeley community unique.
What types of patients do you see?
Here at Carbon Health Berkeley we see patients of all ages and backgrounds! With our close proximity to University of California, Berkeley (GO Bears!), we see many college students, university faculty/staff along with the families and individuals of our community. Our location has also been serving the Berkeley community for many years, making us a staple for those who live in the area. As we move into the new year, we have also begun to offer Primary Care for those seeking to establish more permanent or long term care with a provider. We also welcome patients who take part in our clinical research studies, which lets the community contribute to advancing medicine while getting access to new care options.
Where are you located?
We are located at 2920 Telegraph Avenue. Near us, on Telegraph and Ashby, you will find local Whole Foods grocery store and the neighborhood flower shop Ashby Flowers.
What are the main cities or neighborhoods you serve?
Most of our patients reside in the Berkeley area, as we are conveniently located between Albany and Oakland and are within walking distance of the University.
What’s your favorite thing about working at this location?
Our patients of course! We see lots of your students who have begun their adult journey by going off to college and being on their own. Children and families of the neighborhood for injuries from after school sports and family outings. Our team is one of a kind as well. Here at the Berkeley location, our staff consist of some of the most tenured Medical Assistants at Carbon Health! They are knowledgeable, dedicated and an important part of our excellent care.
Any tips for first-time patients?
Parking is easy and close! You can park for free to the left of our building (along Howe Street) and there are metered parking spots in front of us. Have some time before or after your visit? Our local Whole Foods also has a coffee bar, if you are interested in a quick walk across the street.
How is Carbon Health involved in the local community?
We accept the University (again, GO Bears) insurance, UC Ship and UHC Student Resources. We also partner with the Albany and Oakland Carbon Health locations for local events like the Solano Stroll and Bizerkeley Vegan Food Fair! Our location is also a member of the City of Berkeley Health Care Coalition.
Any local ties?
The majority of our staff are from California and even grew up in the Greater East Bay/Bay area. We love our local cupcake shop Cup Cakin and one of our providers, Byan, is a big fan of the local grocery store Berkeley Bowl.
