Meet Jarren Suh, Center Manager of our Civic Center location in San Francisco, CA. In this post, he shares a closer look at the clinic and what makes the local SF community unique.
Where are you located?
The San Francisco Civic Center location is located on Market St., where 10th St. meets Polk St. We are 2 blocks south of SF City Hall and Civic Center Plaza, which is where our name comes from! If you’re standing on Market Street, you’ll see us next to Anderson Bakery and Starbucks.
What types of patients do you see?
Being in such an urban part of the city, we are a clinic that caters well to working professionals. We can get patients in the same day and usually have them out within 30 minutes, so they can expect minimal disruptions in the workday. We have both urgent care and primary care, so many of our patients are also regulars. However, being so centrally located, we’ll often see visitors from out of town as well.
What are the main cities or neighborhoods you serve?
We serve all of San Francisco but the neighborhoods closest to us are SOMA, FiDi, Hayes Valley, Polk, Tenderloin, Western Addition, and The Mission. Being so close to the Civic Center BART Station, we are one of the most accessible and convenient urgent cares in the city.
What’s your favorite thing about working at this location?
My favorite thing about working at this location is having a great team that is passionate about providing great healthcare. LGBTQ+ health is something we care a lot about here at Civic Center and we are able to provide PrEP and PEP services, and we are working towards expanding more accessible services to Civic Center and Carbon Health.
Any tips for first-time patients?
We are a five minute walk from the Civic Center BART and Muni station and a 5 minute walk from the Van Ness Muni station. We are located in Fox Plaza on the ground floor. If you are driving, parking on the street can be difficult, but there is paid parking underground from Hayes Street.
How is Carbon Health involved in the local community?
The Civic Center location is an active member in the SF Chamber of Commerce and participates in many local events. We actively participated in San Francisco's Pride Parade and celebration (see pic below). We have a partnership with many small businesses around the area to provide speedy and efficient care to their employees through workplace health services. We are also the dedicated student health center for the UC Law San Francisco students.
Any local ties?
We at the Civic Center location are big into fitness! Before work, you can find many of us at the SF Fitness across the street or taking a class together at the Orange Theory also across the street.
