Hearts get a lot of attention in February thanks to a little holiday called Valentine’s Day, but there’s one heart you should show some love every day: your own! We’re celebrating American Heart Month, an entire month dedicated to educating people on how to prevent heart disease.

According to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, with one in four people dying from it every year. In fact, heart disease kills more people than all forms of cancer combined yet 72% of Americans don’t consider themselves at risk, says the American Heart Association.

But it’s not all doom and gloom. Make these simple lifestyle changes now so you can follow your heart for years to come.
