We are so honored to introduce you to Dr. Neeru Singh, our San Francisco-based physician lead and one of the many providers out on the frontlines helping fight COVID-19. She took a few minutes out of her extremely busy week to chat about why she’s proud to be a Carbon Health provider during these crazy times.
Carbon Health: You and your fellow clinicians have been out on the frontlines fighting COVID-19 since the very beginning. We are so appreciative of the work you all are doing during this crisis.
Dr. Neeru Singh:
Thanks! My heart goes out to everyone who has been affected by COVID-19. I have seen close up how it affects my own family and friends. As we face the most challenging time in healthcare, I’m fortunate to work at a company that responds so fiercely and quickly to provide compassionate care to our patients. Carbon Health fosters collaboration amongst its teams, as well as other front line healthcare workers as we all fight to overcome this global crisis.
CH: Walk us through a typical workday during COVID-19 or is there such a thing as a “typical” day as far as pandemics are concerned?
NS: With the current ongoing pandemic, my day at work has definitely become more challenging and, in some ways, more rewarding. Carbon Health currently provides care in multiple settings so I spend my days either at one of our mobile testing sites, providing virtual care, or seeing patients in person at our San Francisco Urgent Care clinic. We have even done testing at an assisted living facility. No matter what setting I am in, I am able to help patients better understand this virus, identify and treat symptoms that place them at a higher risk for complications, and help them cope with the stressors that are associated with this pandemic.
CH: You and several other Carbon Health clinicians recently helped test 78 seniors at an assisted-living facility for COVID-19. What stood out for you about that experience?
NS: It was an experience I’ll never forget. Getting this high risk and fragile population evaluated and tested in a timely fashion was essential in preventing grave outcomes. Our team took this project on and responded really quickly to the facility’s needs. Remember, we had never done anything like this before. Together we were able to put together a whole operation in less than 48 hours and successfully evaluate and test 78 seniors and all the staff that help take care of them. I’m so grateful for our team’s efforts and how many seniors we were able to help that day.
CH: Do you have any inspiring stories from that day?
NS: Companionship is a crucial part of their mental and physical well being of the elderly. It was inspiring to see how close-knit all the seniors were. I remember one patient was more worried about her roommate getting attention than herself. She made sure that I would be checking on her as well, as she was fearful of losing her close friend to COVID-19. It was so touching to see how much these patients cared about their fellow residents. I am so happy that Carbon made it a priority to get these patients tested!
CH: What attracted you to the opportunity to work for Carbon Health?
NS: I’ve always wanted to work at a place that truly prioritizes and respects their patients. Carbon Health is a place that continues to deliver on that promise. Every person I met was so focused, compassionate, and driven to create solutions for patients. I was struck by the ability to bring healthcare and technology together to improve access to care and to connect patients with their healthcare information easily. We really want our patients to have the best experience.
CH: When did you first hear about Carbon Health?
NS: I actually heard about Carbon from a colleague that had worked in the urgent care space and had nothing but great things to say about the company’s strategies and leadership team.
CH: I know you don’t have much free time these days. But what do you do for fun? How do you find a work/life balance especially during COVID-19?
NS: I normally enjoy spending time being active outdoors and exploring new parts of the Bay Area, but with the current shelter in place, I have been finding other avenues for physical activity. I have been able to join virtual yoga and exercise sessions. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen cooking up exciting dishes and learning new cooking skills. As most of the days can stay quite busy, I always make it a priority to set some time aside for myself to stay healthy so I can continue to give my best self to my patients.
CH: What is your favorite part about being a Carbon Health employee?
NS: I love being excited and challenged when coming to work everyday! We make our patients happy and that makes me happy. It’s a chance to create solutions with a leadership team that understands the challenges of healthcare and listens to our ideas and makes them a reality!
