Meet Brittany Phillips, Center Manager of our Somerset, NJ location in the Franklin Township. In this post, she shares a closer look at the clinic and what makes the Somerset community unique.
What types of patients do you see?
At Carbon Health Somerset Urgent Care, we proudly serve a diverse community of patients, including families, seniors, Hispanic and Haitian residents, college students from Rutgers University, and employees from nearby staffing agencies and companies. Our clinic provides both sick and well visits, filling the gaps when primary care offices are closed or unable to accommodate same-day appointments.
We offer on-site x-ray services for injuries large and small, available seven days a week to ensure accessible, timely care. In addition, we provide drug testing, DOT physicals, pre-employment physicals, as well as vision and hearing testing. Our commitment to the community extends beyond medical care — we strive to create a welcoming environment by employing many Spanish-speaking team members, allowing patients to connect directly with providers without always needing a translator for a more personal and comfortable experience.
Where are you located?
The address in the GPS maps will bring you right to the front door! The Somerset location is set in the Veronica Plaza at 84 Veronica Avenue in Somerset, NJ. We are located on the corner of RT. 27 and Veronica Avenue. There is a Jersey Mikes and Dunkin Donuts facing the road in the same plaza.
What are the main cities or neighborhoods you serve?
We see that we are serving a lot of the surrounding towns right here at the Somerset Location. We are pleased to help patients from Somerset, Franklin, Highland Park, Greenbrook, Skillman, South Brunswick, New Brunswick, North Brunswick, and at times even Princeton. Being an X-ray Hub clinic (meaning we have x-ray on-site 7 days a week), we often see patients from our sister clinics in Greenbrook and Skillman.
What’s your favorite thing about working at this location?
The thing I love the most about working at this location is the regular patients. I have been working at this location since 2018 and still get the chance to see my regulars. This is a joyous time for the patient and myself. The patients get a chance to see the growth in their close by Urgent Care while feeling personalized being greeted as they walk in the door. Many of the employees in Somerset have been working in the clinic for years. Although we are not a Primary Care office, we have a very personal relationship with all of our patients.
Any tips for first-time patients?
There are many food options in the area while having to wait for an appointment time or for a quick snack on the way out. Here at Carbon Health Somerset we often order from Narvanis (Indian Food), Dunkin Donuts, Jersey Mikes, Kings Pizza, and China Moon all in the same Plaza. We are very easy to find with great options for takeout on the way out of the parking lot =)
How is Carbon Health involved in the local community?
We partner with many of the organizations around our clinic. For example, we perform the annual exams for the local fire department Franklin Fire District. We are partnered with Jersey Mikes for any workplace injuries. We work closely with the surrounding schools in New Brunswick (all of their middle schools) for student drug testing. We are partnered with many nearby companies to streamline the process of their hiring process, including Wilf Campus, Aspire Logistics, Brazill Brothers, Universal Nutrition, and Spectrum Chemical. Once a year, we sponsor a local school’s sports teams!
Any local ties?
A few of our staff members are tied into the community with their child attending school at South Brunswick High School and a local day care in Somerset. I myself coach a cheerleading team in South Brunswick with young athletes ranging from ages 10-13 and have been coaching them for the past 5 years. Last year in 2024 they were noticed by the mayor of South Brunswick for their National title at the 2024 National Pop Warner cheerleading competition in Orlando Florida.
